Flipping with Hot Topic

You already know about buying and/or building websites to turn around and sell for a profit. (Known as site flipping.)

But what you may not know is that people are quietly making some nice money on eBay by flipping merchandise from non other than Hot Topic.

Yes, people are making money by buying items from the trendy, prep goth store Hot Topic.

But it’s not just any old merchandise, it’s mainly exclusive, limited edition merchandise.

See, Hot Topic is always making special deals for exclusive and many times limited merchandise from bands to movies and even YouTube stars like Fred and Charlie The Unicorn.

Let me give you two examples.

Example 1:

Two years ago a band that I follow, Mindless Self Indulgence, released a CD that was limited to 5k copies and only Hot Topic could sell it.

Within days of it being released people where selling it on eBay for $30+ S/H.

They paid under $12 for it.

Example 2:

When Twilight was released, Hot Topic had the standard 2 disc DVD but it included a 1,500 limited edition film cell card for $24.95.

Today, it’s going for as high as $58.

The reason Hot Topic is a good place to use for this method is:

1. Not everyone lives near a Hot Topic. Plus some of the people who do wont shop there and never think about looking online.

2. They are always running special deals.

For example: Right now Hot Topic giving away a Marilyn Manson 7″ vinyl single with every Marilyn Manson Deluxe CD Pre-Order.

Of course you don’t have to limit exclusive merchandise to Hot Topic. Other companies do exclusive deals too.

Take the Twilight DVD release. Virtually all the major retailers had a special version.

Cosco, for example, had a Twilight Ultimate Collectors Edition Jewelry box for $59.99.

If you want it today, you will have to pay $70+ on eBay since Cosco sold out. I’m sure more when the sequal is released.

Mindless Self Indulgence also had a clean version of it’s CD IF sold exclusively by Wal-Mart for under $10 but was being flipped on eBay for $20.

Plus with all the Indie bands now, you can easily find popular ones and purchase some of their deals.

For Example, when Mindless Self Indulgence did a pre-order for their latest album release, they included a 500 copy run vinyl. It has been sold on eBay for over $100.

Nine Inch Nails also sold a 2,500 limited edition deluxe set to “Ghosts” and I have seen it sell for over a $1,000 on eBay.

Just remember, some deals you might not be able to sell right away and others you might not ever sell. You just need to do some research and see how popular something is and/or going to be.

You may also be able to sell for more and pay less in fees if you have an eBay Store.

    Hi Joshua,

    It’s fairly simple.

You buy exclusive, limited merchandise from Hot Topic or other places and then sell it on eBay.
