More on Flipping with Amazon

October 27th, 2009

In my post Flipping with Amazon, I told about buying Amazon Gold Box & Lighting deals and re-selling them on eBay for a tidy little profit.

Normally these deals are great but from time to time, they aren’t. At least they aren’t the lowest price Amazon has offered before or even the lowest price on the ‘net.

Needless to say, you should do a little research before you just buy it. So here is what I do before I purchase something from Amazon to flip on eBay & in general.

Determine if Amazons current price is a deal.

At times the Amazon deals are just a few dollars cheaper than the normal/average price. They also have/do raise the price before it’s put as a deal so it looks better than it really might be.

So to determine just how good of a deal it is, I use the site CamelCamelCamel which provides current, lowest, average and highest prices for most Amazon products.

At times I also use Price Grabber, DVD Price Search and a quick Google search to see if anyone has it for less. As a general rule, they don’t.

If it is a deal, I determine if it’s flip worth by seeing what it has sold for on eBay.

To do this, I search for the item and see what current items are going for. Then I click “advanced search” and tick the little box labeled “Completed listings.”

This should help determine what it normally goes.

If you know the UPC, you could also do a quick, fake listing and eBay will tell you the average price before you submit it. Just cancel once you get the data.

That about covers it.
