Site Curation Blueprint

Site curation is the latest craze even though it’s not a new concept. News and specialty sites have been doing it pretty much since the beginning of the web. Not to mention offline in different fashions.

So what is curation?

Basically, curation is the collection and display of information from different sources. Many times it will also have unique and/or user generated content.

But curation is not copying content and placing it on your site. That’s stealing.

I’m not going to go into any further details about what curation is but here are a few example curation sites.

I highly suggest you read Curation Nation. It will greatly help you further understand what curation is and how you can profit from it.

Now let’s get to the blueprint.

Step 1. Choose a topic.

I suggest you pick one you are interested it. You should also do a little keyword research to see if it’s popular enough to be profitable but not so popular that you wont be able to rank in the search engines

Step 2. Setup a blog.

Make sure you use all the normal SEO plugins and get a nice looking theme. I would get a custom theme when the site is making money.

Step 3. Open social media accounts.

You need to open a Twitter and Facebook Fan Page for your blog and have your blog autopost to them.

Step 4. Getting and posting content.

To find content you eventually will want a script to help you find and sort content but for now, you can use:

When posting, I either give a summary of the original article or combine several articles into one. Always make sure you site the source.

Of course you should still do the traditional things like a newsletter, build backlinks, submit your RSS feed to sites, etc.

That’s it in a nut shell but if you have questions or just want to leave a comment, please do so below.

Also, don’t forget to grab a copy of Curation Nation.

I’d not heard of curation before now. But it sounds like a good idea – and one which could be applied to good effect. Thanks for the quality information, as always.

This is the first time I have ever heard of curation, though I read TechCrunch every day. It is really a great idea to collect and display information from other sources instead of finding the new topics by yourself all the time. Thanks for the information.

Sorry, I’ve heard of curation before, but I don’t know what “adventually” means, as mentioned in Step 4. I can’t find it in the dictionary.

    @Edward
Gotta love typos. It should have been “eventually.” Thanks for pointing it out.
